Ken Stott

Dr Ken Stott is a composer, church organist, pianist and conductor. He has served as organist and choir director in several churches. Before arriving in Australia in 2005, he lived in Singapore for almost 20 years and was an organist at the International Baptist Church.

Before his recent retirement, Ken was a professor and senior manager in the university setting. He is married to Kim and has two children.

Ken studied composition under the late Brian Longthorne in England, and piano under BBC concert pianist Keith Swallow. His first symphony reflects the events of the Passion story and will be performed before Easter. Lasting 50 minutes, it is a massive work involving a large symphony orchestra, two sopranos and a mezzo-soprano.

Ken Stott's music is melodically rich and harmonically subtle and sensitive. He has previously written sacred choral music, church organ scores, and music for solo voice and piano. His 1977 setting of The Lord's Prayer is a beautiful and  elegant piece of choral writing and has been performed in several countries.

His major work is a cantata for choir, organ and orchestra (or choir and organ only), while other recent compositions include orchestral pieces and chamber music. His first symphony - Symphony of the Passion - is a powerful new work, to be performed in 2019.
